WGBH - Monday, May 20, 2013 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT)

Boston, MA

WGBH invites the entire Greater Boston community to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at a very special event featuring a screening of the film, Model Minority: Do the Math. Immediately after the screening, Liz Cheng, General Manager of WGBH’s WORLD channel, will moderate an interactive panel discussion on depictions of Asian Americans in society and pop culture.

Created by award-winning co-producers Teja Arboleda and Darby Li Po Price, Model Minority: Do the Math reveals the impact of the model minority myth – a complex and contradictory stereotype of Asian Americans as academic overachievers – on the experiences and perspectives of Asian American college students. Through powerful, personal comparisons, the film aims to divert attention from systematic structural racism by emphasizing individualism, and to overcome misconceptions surrounding Asian American students.
