Title IX rule: explainer (NEW), fact sheet, and blog

Hi all,

As you know, the Biden administration’s Department of Education new Title IX rules regarding sex-based harassment, anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination, and discrimination against pregnant and parenting students have been in effect since August 1, 2024 in states and schools where there is not an applicable injunction.

The National Women’s Law Center has created a new detailed explainer on the Biden rule as part of our collection of resources to help students, educators, and advocates navigate this complex rule:

  • Blog (short): For a short and quick read (5 minutes), check out our blog, which explains why the new rule matters, what’s in it, and what to do if there is a court-ordered injunction against the rule in your state or school.
  • Fact Sheet (medium): For a medium-length summary (3 pages + 5 pages = 8 pages), check out our fact sheet and chart (attached), which explain the main effects of the new rules and compare the major changes in the Biden rules from the previous Title IX rules.
  • Explainer (long – NEW): For a long and detailed explanation (19 pages), read this explainer (attached), which provides comprehensive analysis of each major rule provision and how it differs from the previous rules.

Thank you,

Elizabeth
